The Acura ZDX Is Discontinued — What That Means for Drivers

Acura has confirmed that production of the Acura ZDX electric SUV has officially ended. Launched for the 2024 model year as Acura’s first all-electric SUV, the ZDX was built on a shared General Motors EV platform and assembled in Tennessee. However, after a relatively short production run ending in September 2025, Honda decided to discontinue the model, citing market conditions and evolving strategic priorities.

What Happened to the ZDX?

The ZDX returned to Acura’s lineup with high expectations as a bold new electric SUV, aiming to blend luxury, performance, and modern EV capability. Despite a respectable number of sales — more than 19,000 units in North America according to manufacturer data — the vehicle’s future became uncertain as incentives like the federal EV tax credit neared expiration and customer demand shifted.

In September 2025, Honda confirmed that production would cease immediately, cancelling all plans for a 2026 model year and focusing on aligning its lineup with future customer needs.

Why the Decision Was Made

According to Honda, several factors influenced the decision to discontinue the ZDX:

  • Changing market conditions: Sales dynamics in the EV segment have shifted, especially as federal incentives phased out.

  • Platform reliance: The ZDX’s foundation on a platform co-developed with GM was seen as limiting Acura’s ability to craft a uniquely branded electric vehicle.

  • Strategic focus on future models: Acura is redirecting efforts toward its next generation of electric vehicles, including the all-electric RSX, which will be built on Honda’s in-house EV architecture and arrive in late 2026.

What It Means for Buyers

While the ZDX is no longer in production, remaining inventory is often still available at dealerships, sometimes with attractive pricing as dealers make room for newer models. Acura has also affirmed that owners will continue to receive parts support, warranty coverage, and service through the dealer network.

For shoppers interested in Acura’s evolving electrified lineup, the discontinuation of the ZDX marks a transition point. With hybrid models expanding and the upcoming RSX electric SUV, Acura appears poised to redefine its approach to electrification in the coming years.
