The All New 2019 Acura RDX Review

I’ve been working with these luxury brands here in Wichita for 8 years, Acura of Wichita included, and when they told me a completely redesigned version of the RDX was on its way, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Previous experiences in the RDX had shown me a comfortable vehicle that was just that and nothing more. However, against all the naysayers (and even a few of my expectations) Acura has come to realize a vehicle with modern luxuries, a sporty feel, and even a bit of personality. Let’s dive in, shall we?

The exterior is the obvious place to start, and while it maintains the small crossover appearance, there is nothing small in how it presents itself. From the front grill, aggressive and outspoken with the signature radiating points out of the Acura emblem, to the sharp angles and contours that guide eyes from end to end, the 2019 RDX shouts its modernity.

Jumping into the interior, drivers and passengers will find (standard) a panoramic sunroof, an acoustically insulated windshield, heated mirrors, heated 12-way power-adjustable front seats, LED head and taillights, push button start, two USB charging ports in front, and more. I’d continue with the list, but you’d likely get bored from reading it. The summary for the interior is that, for a vehicle labelled as the entry level SUV for Acura, the comforts and quality do not echo the that entry level title. Whether you’re road tripping across the US or heading to your favorite restaurant such as Red Robin’s or Chester’s, the car will get you there in comfort and style.

But there’s always more to a vehicle than looking good and feeling good: one must know that they and their loved ones are as safe as can be. Just yesterday, August 9, the 2019 RDX received the Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety! A few of the key innovations and safety features that allowed the RDX to earn this award (and to keep you family safe) include the AcuraWatch package of safety and assistance features including forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane- and road-departure warning systems, and lane-keeping assist.

Finally, one of the biggest highlights in the all-new RDX is the infotainment center with its innovative True Touchpad Interface! Using a 10.2 inch screen that is enable by a centrally located, center-console mounted touchpad, drivers and passengers are able to control most functions of the vehicle including music, phone control, and more! The idea is that, although touchscreens are effective, they can be unsafe while driving; the True Touchpad Interface allows drivers to click the touchpad in a manner mimicking them touching the screen, following their movements for easy access that keeps drivers attention focused on the road.

The 2019 RDX may be construed and priced at an entry level crossover, but the offerings available just in the standard model alone create value for you, the customer.
